If you're looking to know your London Dry from your Navy Strength or Old Tom and need some help choosing from the thousands of gins out there... GreatGins might just be the tonic.

This is a Gin that certainly knows its roots and is doing a lot to put its hometown on the map.

The brand was founded by June and Cameron McCann, natives to Stirling who actually started the city’s very first Gin Festival in 2014.

This was the event that inspired them to take their Gin enthusiasm that one step further to creating their own spirit.

The only thing left to do was to find something to really put their Gin on the map and that was when they stumbled upon a bunch of nettles whilst walking their springer spaniel.

This was to become the key botanical to their Gin, to really make it stand out from the crowd.

It took the couple around six months to come up with a successful recipe for their Gin, and then, on October 28th 2015, they ran their first batch.

Since then Stirling Gin has gained lots of popularity and the McCanns have had to scale up by forming “a working partnership with Glasgow Distillery“.

Stirling Gin is made using juniper, angelica root, orange peel and lemon peel, as well as nettles sourced locally and basil. It begins with fresh, dew covered juniper berries and a little hint of crisp citrus fruits.

There is a delicate sweetness to the flavour and the citrus fruits are wonderfully zesty and full of life.

The palate is rich and diverse in its flavours. The juniper is ever-present but never once overwhelms or takes over.

The nettles and basil really come across on the palate and bring in yet more sweetness and a little bit of spice.

Again, there is a healthy dose of citrus fruit that bring this Gin to life. The heat from the basil and nettles goes especially well with the lemon notes.

The finish is gentle and flavoursome. Juniper makes a lasting appearance, with a little dash of nettle to go along with it.

Stirling Gin is a brilliant spirit that makes use of flavours that are not very common in Gin. It certainly does its hometown and namesake proud.
