Coming from the same creators of the wildly popular brands of Punk IPA and Indie Pale Ale, Lone Wolf Gin is taking the Gin world by storm.
BrewDog was founded in 2007, long before the hipster enthusiasm for craft beer pushed smaller local producers to the forefront of the industry.
It was founded as an answer to the “industrially brewed lagers and stuffy ales that dominated the UK beer market”.
Today it is thriving, with several brands of beer, ale and spirits under its belt, as well as two breweries, one in Scotland and one in Ohio.
They have launched a spirits company called Lone Wolf that produces Vodka, Whisky and Gin.
Both Lone Wolf and BrewDog have grown in size but are still able to maintain the friendly craft feel about them.
Their products are often met with applause and the Lone Wolf distillery is now one of the biggest producers in the UK.
Their Gin is a brilliant spirit that captures the elegant simplicity of the spirit while at the same time bringing in some fantastic flavours.
It is made using 14 different botanicals, which includes juniper coriander seeds, orris root, angelica root, cardamom, Kaffir lime leaf, pink peppercorn, almond, pink grapefruit peel, lemon peel, Thai lemon grass, lavender, Scots pine needles and mace.
The nose begins with lots of citrus fruit, especially grapefruit. There is a gentle aroma of juniper in the background, which is complemented with some light herbal notes.
The lavender really begins to come out amongst the herbal notes and melts together with the juniper.
The palate is bright and crisp, with lots of lime and lemon coming through. Again, the juniper is present, with a delicate tang to it. It is enhanced by the presence of the pine needles that really help to bring out some of the flavours.
There is a soft hint of almond throughout which adds a lovely sweetness to the overall taste.
To finish there is lots of lemon and grapefruit, rounded off with a final nod towards juniper and cardamom.
This is a high quality Gin at a reasonable price. It has all the markers for a premium quality spirit and really knows where it stands.
If they keep producing spirits of this quality it certainly won’t be long until Lone Wolf are truly leading the pack.
