The King of Soho is affectionately named after Paul Raymond, who was known by the nickname because of both his love of the district as well as his entrepreneurial endeavours to transform it.

He is the reason that many clubs, including the legendary Madame JoJo’s and the Raymond Revue Bar, thrived in the area.

Raymond was well known within the district, especially in the 60s and 70s, and he worked hard to bring business and interest to the area.

Today it is one of London’s most popular hubs, attracting tourists and locals alike.

The King of Soho Gin was created by Howard Raymond, Paul Raymond’s son, as a homage to his father.

It came out in 2013 and has really taken off, both for its attractive branding and brilliant taste.

This London Dry Gin has been crafted from 12 botanicals, including juniper, cassia bark and angelica root. It has also been distilled four times to give it a wonderfully smooth mouth feel.

The nose presents a very typical Gin flavour, with lots of juniper and coriander. It is crisp and fresh, with a nice bite to it.

There is also a zesty hint of grapefruit peel and lemon and lime. These add a tangy citrus appeal to the overall flavour.

The palate is soft and smooth, with a wonderfully easy-going nature that captures the hedonism and devil-may-care attitude of Soho perfectly.

The citrus fruits come back here and offer up that sharpness that was so great on the nose. It is clear and spirited, bursting with flavour and citrus juice.

The botanicals melt together and are well blended. The juniper is ever present, with aromatic pine notes in the background. These give a lovely depth to the Gin.

The pine really comes through on the finish, which is strong and herby.

This is a delightfully classic Gin that captures both the spirit of its namesake as well as the spirit of a good London Dry.
